The Department of Pesticide Regulation is designed to make it easier for people in a variety of areas, including Santa Clarita, get help in a pesticide emergency and resolve pesticide use complaints and concerns.
Pesticide is an umbrella term that includes a variety of chemicals, natural and synthetic. A pesticide is any substance intended to control, destroy, repel, or attract a pest. It is any living organism that causes damage, economic loss, and transmits disease may be the target pest.
They are toxic by design and deliberately released into nature but play a unique role in environmental protection. Nature created the first chemical pesticides that were produced by plants and animals to repel their natural enemies. This paradox is explained by the fact that when used properly, both natural and synthetic pesticides protect people and their environment from pests, animal, plant or microbial that threaten human health and the balance of nature, according to the Department of Pesticide Regulation.
Their task to ensure that pesticides are used safely integrates a strong scientific approach that is used in the Santa Clarita Valley. Residents through their lawmakers have controlled every aspect of pesticides sales and use which is a standard to protect people and the environment.
Santa Clarita residents can rest assured that they are meeting with highly experienced workers within the DPR. They are funded by regulatory fees and has about 400 employees including a large number of scientists from diverse disciplines.

They have acquired an integrated approach by monitoring the use of pesticides from farm and grocery shelves to assure the safety of workers and the public. This includes an evaluation and registration of pesticide products before sale or use in Santa Clarita. If individuals can’t demonstrate that their products can be used safely to protect workers, consumers, or anyone who is exposed to it, the DPR will not allow pesticide to be used.
They consist of strict rules by offering licensing of commercial dealers, consultants, and other pesticide professionals to ensure that they are rightfully trained to use pesticides safely. Comprehensive assessments of pesticide risks is offered to all populations from exposure via air, water, food, in the home or workplace. There are more than 900 active ingredients registered as pesticides which are formulated into thousands of pesticide products available in the marketplace. Approximately 350 pesticides are used on the foods consumers eat and to protect homes and pets, according to the Department of Pesticide Regulation.
The DPR’s mission is to ensure that Santa Clarita and other areas are protected from harmful effects that may be associated with pesticide use.
