Known as the fourth largest local policing agency in the United States, The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department continuously provides the best safety and care for its residents. Founded in 1850, LASD supplements its full time ranks with over 800 reserve deputies.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department is also the second largest transit police force in the nation, aside from the New York Police Department (NYPD). Furthermore, with policing contracts with nine campuses of the Los Angeles Community College and Lancaster Community College District, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department is the largest community-policing agency in the United States.
Keeping Los Angeles County Safe
By developing and integrating the latest law enforcement technologies, especially nonlethal weapons The LASD has gained an international reputation. But the LASD’s achievements don’t stop there. In 1990, the LASD successfully implemented a county wide sound recorder/meter system that enables them to detect loud noises within about 25-30 feet of where possible, previous gunfire was shot.
Because of this device, with it being able to search locations of possible gunfire and having the ability to relay GPS information to headquarters, many felony arrests have been successfully made. Besides inventing new devices and protecting their Santa Clarita Valley and LA county residents, the LASD assists and helps out in other forms as well.
Starting in 2009, LASD began leasing some electric-powered Mini Cooper cars for $10 a month each. In exchange for this, BMW, Mini Cooper’s parent company, requested feedback about their cars. Another example of kindness from the LASD would have to be when they extended their policing services to the Santa Clarita Valley, and West Hollywood.
Protecting the Santa Clarita Valley
Once upon a time, the Santa Clarita Valley, like West Hollywood, never had police departments because when their city governments were founded they took over what was formerly unincorporated land. But then contracted their police responsibilities right back to the county sheriff.
The LASD was kind enough to extend a helping hand and begin policing both the Santa Clarita Valley and West Hollywood. The Los Angeles Sherriff ‘s Department proves, time and time again, that the safety of people is highly important; therefore that is what will always comes first.
