Have you ever heard of the Los Angeles Office of Emergency Management Department? This organization is based out of Los Angeles and they assist with many disasters in the LA area, including the Santa Clarita Valley.
Preparing Santa Clarita for Disaster
The Emergency Management Department is designed to help the United States when a crisis or disaster hits. The Los Angeles Emergency Management Department is headed by Aram Sahakian, who was appointed by Mayor Eric Garcetti in 2016. Sahakian served as Incident Coordinator for dozens of major incidents including the 2013 shooting at LAX, the 2008 Metrolink Chatsworth disaster, major fires, and the 1994 Northridge earthquake. Sahakian studied executive level leadership at Harvard Business and Kennedy Schools, took special management training at California Specialized Training Institute, studied at Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service (TEEX), and the Emergency Management Institute at the National Emergency Training Center in Emmitsburg Maryland. He is a graduate at the University of Southern California School of Electrical Engineering.
Residents of Santa Clarita are encouraged to enroll in the EMD’s emergency notification services to be ready and informed when disaster strikes. One of the major concerns in Los Angeles County is the impact a large disaster would have. The Los Angeles Office of Emergency Management Department works hard to have solid plans for if and when a strong earthquake hits.
