Why Does Advanced Audiology Offer Free Hearing Screenings?

Free hearing screenings are offered at Advanced Audiology, and Santa Clarita audiologist Nola Aronson is sharing her belief why this is a valuable resource for the community.

#1 – So residents already have a hearing baseline if they’re in an accident

Even those without hearing issues can benefit from a free hearing screening by establishing a baseline, according to Aronson.

If a person has an accident that causes hearing loss, the baseline with Advanced Audiology can assist with the approval of insurance or worker’s compensation claims, Aronson noted.

“One of my patients got in a car accident a year after she got her normal hearing baseline, and the airbag went off next to her ear. She lost her hearing,” Aronson said. “We were able to prove to the insurance company that it was from the accident, not from her age, not from anything else… She got free hearing devices to help her hear.”

#2 – So any medical issues associated with hearing loss can be ruled out

Someone who doesn’t plan on buying a hearing aid for their hearing loss can also still benefit from a free hearing screening because it can help rule out possible medical issues, according to Aronson.

“There’s so many medical conditions related to hearing loss,” she said. “Do you have wax in your ears, do you have fluid in your ears, is your eardrum broken, did you have a stroke, do you have diabetes?”

For instance, when KHTS Owner Carl Goldman saw Aronson for sudden hearing loss in one ear, it was actually an acoustic tumor.

“We were able to get it right away, so it didn’t affect his health,” Aronson said. “That’s just an example of, you never know.”

#3 – So residents can improve their quality of life by learning about hearing loss solutions

Communication and hearing go hand in hand, and communication is important for connecting with other people, according to Aronson, who pointed out in an earlier interview that hearing loss can result in depression and isolation if the person stops being social because they aren’t hearing well.

“Your quality of life, that’s what’s so important. That’s all we care about, is how can we help you?” Aronson said, adding that she is not in the business of just “selling” hearing devices.

Aronson continued, “If you don’t want to do something about it, we’re not going to push you into it, but we will educate you. We will help you. We’ll do anything that we can to make your life better. That’s what we’re all about at Advanced Audiology.”
