About 1,800 free hearing screenings have been given by Nola Aronson’s Advanced Audiology so far in 2019 as part of her goal to educate the community about hearing.
A total of 2,058 free hearing screenings were given by Advanced Audiology last year, and so Aronson is seeking to top this number by Dec. 31.
“The reason we do this is just to educate people about their hearing,” Aronson said. “You get a baseline, you know where your hearing is at, and then over the years, now you can see if it’s changing.”
Instead of just “selling” hearing devices, Aronson pointed out how important it is for her to teach her patients to understand hearing loss and how it can affect their lives.

“That’s where our interest lies,” Aronson said. “I’m not out there just to try to sell a hearing aid. I’m trying to solve a medical issue if there is one, or I’m trying to solve a social issue if you’re not able to do the things that you were able to do before.”
People with hearing loss often isolate themselves because they feel like they can’t participate in social settings or activities they enjoy anymore, according to Aronson.
The audiologist in Santa Clarita noted it is her goal to go over the available hearing loss solutions for her patients and give them recommendations based on their specific, individualized needs.
“We don’t want people as they get older to give up what they love to do just because they may have a hearing problem,” Aronson said. “Our motto (is) helping people, and helping people to lead better social lives.”
