The Mountains Recreation and Conservation Authority (MRCA) is a local government public entity established in 1985 pursuant to the Joint Powers Act. The MRCA is a local partnership between the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy, which is a state agency established by the Legislature, and the Conejo Recreation and Park District and the Rancho Simi Recreation and Park District both of which are local park agencies established by the vote of the people in those communities. Protecting our wildlife and natural environments in the Santa Clarita Valley are always important and it is a job that never ends which makes Mountain Recreation and Conservation Authority an important and valuable branch of our local governments.
Wildlife Preservation Santa Clarita
Working to acquire and protect parks the Mountain Recreation and Conservation Authority places a great deal of importance on protecting our parks and making them amazing natural places to visit. The Mountain Recreation and Conservation Authority is responsible for the protection of 73,000 acres of public land throughout Southern California and the Santa Clarita Valley. Protecting our natural recreation areas is extremely important as it allows for healthy and safe outdoor activities and allows for people to enjoy the beautiful natural landscapes. Living in a region that is becomingly increasingly developed with endless rows of houses now occupying what was once large areas of natural hillside and fields, being able to visit beautiful natural landscapes and enjoy large open spaces that can not be found in the nearby cities.
The natural landscapes and mountains and deserts that make up the Southern California area face many threats including pollution, fire, deforestation, encroaching civilization and general human interference. Making these natural areas safe and enjoyable places to be is the chief responsibility of the MRCA by working to set up events to be held in the parks allowing many people to safely enjoy the area then leave without damaging the area. Providing the parks with trails that are clean, visible, and safe is an important function of the MRCA.
